Student Profiles: How will we do this?

We've all agreed that we want to include student profiles on the website. These would add a human presence, introduce a sense of community, and help make students aware of the good people (good examples, really) that surround them.

The question is: How will we do this? We need to have a specific, rigid approach as we set these up. How would you do it? In the conversations we've had on this topic we've talked a lot about different categories or questions that could serve to create a format for each profile. "Why are you in Honors?" Or, "What are your plans for the future?" I want to make sure that this feature of our website is encouraging to other people and helps them believe in themselves and feel like Honors is a great thing to be a part of; I don't want it to be a forum for anything less. And I don't think it will be.

Here are some examples of profiles. What do you think? What should be our object and how can we accomplish it? Please comment!

Should we rename Insight?

Hi Everyone! We're not going to bring this question up in class because we found out last semester that it is a good way to use time very ineffectively. We don't want to distract ourselves from the more important task at hand--making the magazine. But, because I still think it's a valid question, I'm posting it here. If you have an idea, you're welcome to contribute.

Insight is a fine name. It makes the magazine sound like an official publication, which is a good thing. However, have you noticed how many other Insight-like magazines there are around BYU? The Maxwell Institute publishes Insights, a newsletter. The MOA's magazine is called Insite. The English department's literary journal is called Inscape, and I'm sure some of your friends think you're working for them.

Changing the name from Insight to something else will help us become a more recognizable, more interesting brand. But the question is, of course, what to switch to. Maybe you can help us here. We've discussed a lot of names ranging from Maeser's Edge to H magazine to Etc. to Resonance without finding that seems to fit us perfectly.

Maybe the verdict should be to stick with Insight and create a brand behind the name, so that people will recognize it. But maybe we should change it to something better--do you have a great idea?

Welcome to the class blog!

Hi class! This blog is the place where you'll be able to check for class announcements, follow our class calendar, and post ideas. To keep things organized try to remember to label your posts somehow (class business, website, print magazine, design ideas, article ideas etc.). We're excited for this semester and know we can do great things if we work freakin' hard and act on our good ideas.
